The on-demand hyper-local service model has taken severe beating in recent times, and several startups in this segment have been either shut down or sold. But Coimbatore-based ‘Anything Delivered’, established in 2012, has been making it big ever since its inception sailing through the tough times.
The App-based local errands service provider delivers everything that mind can conceive of, except liquor and tobacco, of course. From delivering a music CD of the great composer Ilayaraaja’s classics from the 80s to chips packets, during the IPL matches, Anything Delivered hasn’t missed any opportunity to make a mark in this segment.
With “Never say no” the team’s motto, ‘Anything Delivered (AD)’ was founded by Darshan Krishnasamy, who delivers an emotional story: “I had to miss my flight once because of forgetting it at home. If someone had handed my passport back to me, I would have definitely made the trip. I missed the flight, but then I founded Anything Delivered instead: there is no looking back now.” One of his close friends, Gokul, an engineering college Fresher man then, joined him in the pursuit of taking the startup to the next level.
What is Anything Delivered all about?
Darshan, who has a Masters degree from Monash University Australia, says, “AD is simple and hassle free with help just a call away. You can book through our mobile app, website or simply give us a call.” He adds, “With over 1, 50,000 deliveries done so far and counting, we have spread wings in all majors cities in TamilNadu and outside of TamilNadu; we are in Bengaluru and Cochin too.”
“The service charges are based on distance travelled and time spent. We verify the details and proof of existence of all our delivery partners. Police clearance is also done as and when required. However, as most delivery partners are locals with a background check already completed, AD hasn’t faced any security issues in the last 5 years,” he adds.
A surge in food orders saw them partnering with several restaurants in the city including global food chains like KFC, Pizza Hut, Wang’s Kitchen, etc. AD does menu management for the customers: it books movie tickets too. Elderly people often call them to get them medicines; the team swings into action for delivery. AD delivers fresh food and fish supplies all over the city. The team is also providing pick up and drop car services, especially for people in Tirupur, TamilNadu. It is now eyeing on offering laundry services, temporary mobile inverter services (in areas of frequent power cuts), tailoring, and healthy home food.
Gokul joins in “The next big thing in the city can be e-commerce; we wanted to have the retail outlets online. We are also planning to tag baby products, tailoring shops, electronic products, 1gm jewellery, etc as we move along.”
Anything Delivered has also unveiled its unique app-based bike rideshare service, AD RIDE, through which people get a quick ride to their destination on a motorcycle. Despite the dominance of Uber and OLA cabs on roads, AD RIDE is able to squeeze in through the traffic and reach the customer’s spot within a few minutes of booking the service. A spare helmet is also provided to customers for their safety during the ride.
With ride rating system, customer care line to take complaints such as in case of Rash driving, option to get out of a ride anytime, and a customer care line to take complaints in place, it is definitely disrupting the rideshare services segment. As for the ride fee, it is strictly based on distance and time of the trip and is shown on both your mobiles after the trip. A rough estimate of the ride fee is also displayed before you make the trip.
The road ahead
From sending pickles, shirts, print-outs on an emergency basis, to even late night delivery of gifts to one’s girlfriend regularly, AD is simply rocking this segment in its own characteristic way of thrilling their customers with guaranteed satisfaction and delight. “Having launched our international operations recently in Singapore and Srilanka, we are all set to expand to Malaysia, UAE and Australia,” asserts an elated Darshan.
